EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

- Do you feel stuck in dealing with a situation or repeating the same way of doing things over and over again, even when you realize it isn't working?
- Have you experienced trauma or a disturbing event?
- Are you looking for something other than normal talk therapy?
- EMDR Therapy is a psychotherapy that assists individuals to heal from emotional distress and disturbing life experiences, and to feel more whole. EMDR Therapy is a scientifically based therapy that integrates elements from different treatment approaches that has to do with brain process and how the brain stores memory. Sometimes it can feel like the missing piece of the puzzle in order to make progress in therapy.
- EMDR Therapy is designed to help a person identify and process stuck pieces of memories, thoughts or feelings so that the symptoms can decrease and one can feel more alive and less distressed.
- EMDR Therapy will not erase the memory; rather you will be able to remember the story without all the emotional charge that was distressing before the treatment. The process works to neutralize the distress related to the incident.
- EMDR Therapy has been deemed effective for the treatment of trauma by the American Psychiatric Association, US Veterans Affairs, American Pediatric Association and mental health departments in numerous countries. It has been used in critical situations such as victims of crime, hurricane Katrina, 9-11, and war veterans.
- EMDR Therapy can augment other therapy and counselling. If you are currently working with another therapist, sometimes attending for a couple of EMDR Therapy sessions for a specific topic can work in conjunction with other therapy & help make the remainder of your therapy more effective.
- EMDR Therapy may last from 1 to 6 sessions for a single issue to 1 year or longer for more complex problems.
