Hi, I'm Heather Rattai, a Registered Clinical Counsellor with over 20 years experience helping people. I am passionate about changing lives. I specialize in working with overwhelmed, anxious and depressed mothers who are looking for a different way to live. I am a mother, wife, counsellor, colleague, volunteer, daughter, & friend who believes that a mother living her best version of herself is a great gift to her children. When our expectations, stress, guilt, anxiety and depression get in the way of being who we are meant to be, it may be time to reach out for help.
In my role as a counsellor, I provide caring guidance and nurturing support to help you explore your current life situation, clarify your needs and goals, and develop a "game plan" to be the mother you want to be and to lead a great life! By initially working to reduce symptoms of anxiety, stress and depression, and increase energy I hope that the mothers I work with will experience increased confidence as a mother and a woman, have clear goals of what they want out of life, and the skills to carry them forward.
Qualifications: I have completed a BA (psychology), a Master of Arts (criminology) and a Master of Counselling degree. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#6187) in good standing with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I have over 20 years of experience working with people in health care, victim services, criminal justice, and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP). I am an approved provider for ICBC and the Crime Victim Assistance Program. I am a certified EMDR counsellor, and an EMDR consultant-in-training.
I use various counselling modes including cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused, Eye Movement Desensization and Reprocessing (EMDR), emotion-focused therapy, focusing, and mindfulness. I attend ongoing training, and seminars so that I can provide my clients with the most current methods of counselling.
I have completed the Occupational Awareness Training for Therapists: Understanding First Responder Trauma.
